El Pomar Foundation

Complete Exterior Membrane Refurbishment and the installation of new window walls and door canopies for 7,200 square foot meeting facility

Background

The El Pomar Foundation was established in 1937 by Spencer and Julie Penrose, creating an enduring legacy to carry out their philanthropic wishes. The foundation is headquartered on the property of the Broadmoor Resort in Colorado Springs. The foundation owns a large fabric structure that is used for meetings and presentations. The structure had fallen into disrepair and required a membrane refurbishment. The structure also featured a unique bell-end design element which led to a challenging refurbishment

Solution

The foundation approached Signature Structures due to our reputation as an industry leader in the refurbishment of fabric structures of all types, regardless of original manufacturer. Our clean sheet design approach allows us to perform inspections and surveys and create refurbished solutions for any structure, including those with unique design elements like this one. In addition to replacing the worn out membrane, the foundation wanted to upgrade the window walls in the facility and install new sliding doors. Signature was able to design the new accessories and work with local contractors to provide them.

Details

Our approach included a system consisting of new roof sheets and gable end wall panels. made from Ferrari 702 white opaque 24oz, S2 topcoat (weldable PVDF). In addition, we supplied door frames to support double glass doors including steel headers, aluminum door horizontals, and aluminum vertical posts. We also added a new canopy on the flat end wall approximately 20’ and fully connected to the main structure. The result was a like-new facility with a 20-25 year life cycle at a fraction of the cost of a new structure.
