Providing weather protection for of an open stairwell as part of a large commercial plaza in Rogers Arkansas
Background
One uptown in Rogers Arkansas is a large mix-used complex that features residential, retail, commercial and office space in one the fasted growing communities in the United States. Crossland Construction, the GC and construction manager on the project, wanted to add a custom tensile canopy feature to cover an open stairwell in the center of the multi-story open air retail/commercial location. Due to it’s high profile location, it was critical the canopy be both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Solution
Signature Structures specializes in clean-sheet designs utilizing in-house design and engineering services. We specialize in working with architects and contractors to bring their visions to life. Working from a design engineering onto agreement that allowed the client to bring Signature Structures the team without committing to a full contract, Crossland, the owner, and Signature worked together on the final design.
Details
Our approach including detailed analysis of the best tensile fabric options, taking into account the application and surroundings. We determined a high quality blue opaque membrane would perform best while matching the overall aesthetic of the facility with a naturally cleaning topcoat and one of the longest warranties in the industry. The project took over a year from design to fruition but the end results was worth the wait. The canopy allows architectural detail of the open stairway to remain while providing weather protection for visitors and a new stunning visual element.
