Background
In the mid-2000’s, the Department of Homeland Security purchased two large hangars for usasge as drone hangars for the the US Border Patrol for intstallation at Ft. Huachuca, very close to the Mexican Border. The structures featured large, custom hangar doors that were integrated into the design of the structures themselvesUnfortunately, when it came time to refurbish the exterior membranes, the company from whom they purchased the structures had gone out of business. They needed a company that had expertise in providing membrane refurbishment services for any structure, regardless of OEM that could handle the custom design elements
of this hangar.
Solution
Signature was a natural partner for the project. Inspecting, maintaining, repairing and refurbishing fabric structures of all shapes and sizes regardless of original manufacturer is our core business. We had refurbished countless structures from the company that manufactured these buildings and were quite familiar with them.
Details
Our approach included a system consisting large membrane panels that covered the existing membrane roof and walls in full. with a new tensioning system and architectural grade membrane. The system was designed to minimize interior work allowing all hanging systems to remain in place. We also worked closely with the a local steel company who was performing modifications to the hangar door frames in conjunction with our workl Signature was able to perform the refurbishment while the USBP continued to perform maintenance services inside.
