Background
The New York Aquarium was founded in 1896 and is one of the oldest aquariums in the country. It currently operates on 14 acres in Coney Park, NY. It features several tension and tensile canopy structures, and for almost a decade, Signature Structures has serviced them all, including a dramatic entrance canopy that welcomes visitors to the facility.
The Challenge
Due to its prime location, the care, and maintenance of the entrance canopy could not be entrusted to the maintenance staff who do not possess the specific training and expertise to recognize issues which may crop on a custom tensile structure such as the entrance canopy. They needed an outside company who specialized in such structures to make sure that any minor problems were identified and eliminated before they became major problems.
Solution
The Aquarium, as they had done in the past and would do again in the future, leaned on the expertise and experience of Signature Structures to ensure the long life and aesthetic appeal of their entrance canopy. No company in the industry performs more of this type of work than Signature.
The Result
The Wildlife Conservation Society, which operates the Aquarium as well as all New York zoos, was extremely pleased with the work and has used Signature on many subsequent projects.
